Matthew Dappen has been working tirelessly for 12 years caring for at risk, orphaned and special needs kids. He currently has 8 boys under his care with a variety of different needs, backgrounds and stories. Matt has been father, mother, nurse, chef, teacher, counselor and so many other roles to the boys in his care. He has been faithfully serving without thought to his own comfort and needs. Over the past 11 years they had moved 12 times and Matthew was looking forward to a place to settle down, garden, teach the kids and invite people.

Bobby Dappen is younger brother to Matthew Dappen. For a time, he also assisted Matthew with the kids home, however the Lord moved him to the states to begin his own family. The kids and Mexico has never been far from his heart or mind. Currently he works for a rockery company and has gained knowledge in project planning and coordinating. On Bobby’s and his family’s recent trip to Mexico the idea and vision for Camp Amos was born. The Lord has blessed his efforts thus far and is moving through Bobby to complete the camp.

Jose and Mila have been longtime friends of the Dappen family. They are from Guayameo, Guerrero the town that the Dappen family lived in for over 20 years. Jose is well respected and known in the community and has completed multiple building projects in Guayameo. Mila is a wonderful cook and her enchiladas are very renown to many people. After Bobby and his family visited them in January 2017 and as the idea for Camp Amos was developed, Bobby invited Jose to come and oversee a portion of the project. Jose and his family were part of phase one in Las Margaritas. The basic shell of the dorm, bathrooms and laundry buildings were put up.

[/minti_member]Our History
The Dappen family began taking in at risk, special needs and orphaned kids in 2004. It started with just a few and grew to at times 20 children. After Art Dappen passed away in 2007 the family moved from Guayameo, Guerrero to Las Margaritas, Chiapas to make running the kids home easier. As the family changed and the Lord moved each of the Dappens in different directions, Matthew and Suzy remained in charge of the kids home. After Suzy married in 2012, she and her husband moved to San Cristobal to begin their own family and are in the process of trying to adopt the three girls in their charge. Matt remained in Las Margaritas caring for the boys. The number often changes from upwards of 15 to his current number of 8. They all have a variety of special needs, backgrounds and stories. Over the 11 years in Las Margaritas they have moved over 12 times for various reasons. Matthew is very excited about having a permanent home to garden, teach and invite others to visit.
Our Heart and Hope
We want to create a safe place for individuals, especially at risk and special needs kids to come and experience the love of Jesus in a way they have never seen before. We want to create a fun, loving, comfortable environment to meet the heart needs of the people in the community. We also want to create a place that we can invite individuals to come bless and serve others. We want to spread the love and healing of Jesus as much as we possibly can!
Our Theme Verse
Isaiah 60:21-22
Then all your people will be righteous
and they will posses the land forever.
They are the shoot I have planted,
the work of my hands,
for the display of my splendor.
The least of you will become a thousand,
the smallest a mighty nation.
I am the LORD;
in its time I will do this swiftly.
